Malcolm Mitton b. 1950
Malcolm Mitton was born in Willington Co. Durham. He studied art and design at Leeds (1969-72) and then specialised in printmaking at the Royal College of Art (1972-75). At first his prints and drawings reflected the post pop culture of the period. He drew on a ‘sense of place’, street theatre, circus and the art of the fairground decorator. Lettering too added to the eclectic mix as seen in his array of supermarket art. Typography and Lettering had remained an interest since his earliest student days and also a subject he taught when he returned to Leeds as a lecturer.
