PAINTINGS
I visited the Dorset coast, southern England, for the first time in September 2001 and was struck immediately by its remarkable grandeur and diversity. I also realised that the ideas and practices that I had established in Cumbria could be readily pursued here - a coastal twin to my haunts in the Eden Valley and the hills above Ullswater. These small paintings are the results of walking the coastal paths and beaches of Dorset. Collectively they reflect my sketchbook practices, working with sequential themes but also responding to the moment.
